Drivers traveling on U.S. Route 95 through Cordaline on Sunday should expect slow traffic and possible delays as Idaho Department of Transportation workers apply road markings between Lancaster Road and the Spokane River Bridge.
Construction workers will begin work at approximately 6:30 a.m. and are expected to complete the work by 4:00 p.m. This section has heavy traffic, numerous intersections, and traffic lights, so extra caution is advised.
To ensure the safety of all road users, Idaho State Police will deploy additional patrols to the area. Drivers are asked to remain patient, maintain a safe distance from the painters, obey signs, and avoid crossing blurred lines.
Many drivers ask why this work isn’t done at night to avoid traffic jams. The answer is simple: light and heat are essential for safe and effective paint application. Good visibility is essential for applying markings, and vehicle headlights aren’t sufficient for precise line application. Low nighttime temperatures in Northern Idaho also affect paint drying, leading to poor adhesion and potential hazards.
In some large cities, the presence of stripes on the asphalt at night is due to abundant street lighting, but this is not the case for most roads in northern Idaho.
Please be patient. Our staff will complete the work as quickly and safely as possible to minimize disruption to you and ensure proper application of paint and reflective elements.
The Idaho Department of Transportation (ITD) annually applies road markings to hundreds of miles of highways. These markings help drivers navigate safely and improve visibility, especially at night. Your cooperation helps us carry out this work safely, ensuring the safety of you and our employees.
