Drivers traveling north on Highway 11 toward Regina may notice unusual road markings as the Department of Highways begins testing paintwork.
To test which coating offered the greatest strength and adhesion, samples of various coatings were applied to the highway. Each product will be evaluated after six months, and the one with the best performance will be used for the next four years.
“Road markings are one of the most important safety features the Department of Highways invests in,” said Highways Minister Fred Bradshaw. “Drivers rely on clear road markings every day, and using high-quality materials ensures we meet these expectations in the most cost-effective manner.”
Road markings help reduce traffic accidents by clearly delineating centerlines, edge lines, lane markings, intersection layouts, and road signs. The paints used in Saskatchewan contain recycled glass beads, which improve durability and reflectivity, making the markings more visible at night and in inclement weather.
