Speed limit signs on more than a dozen Ottawa streets have been moved from the shoulder to the center of the road in an effort to improve safety.
The $10,000 pilot project involves installing flexible yellow signs, about five feet tall, in the middle of 12 residential streets with speed limit zones.
One of the areas involved is Grenon Avenue in west Ottawa, where the speed limit is 40 km/h because it is a school zone.
Christopher Assad said he had seen cars speeding down the road for 30 years and now he sees changes.
The City of Ottawa is looking for low-cost ways to discourage drivers from speeding, especially in areas where schools and parks are close to streets.
The city said it would then review the pilot program to determine whether it should be reinstated.
