The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced plans to use highly reflective glass beads as road markings on sections of the Olympic Road and conduct an evaluation. The move aims to improve visibility on rainy roads and provide a safer environment for drivers.
Traditional road marking paints usually use glass beads to reflect vehicle headlights and improve visibility. This year, the city government plans to use highly reflective glass beads that are rain-resistant and about twice the size of standard glass beads, which can effectively reflect more light and maintain high visibility even in the rain.
Seoul will conduct tests and verification of the effectiveness of resurfacing and repainting road markings on the Olympic Highway, the longest highway in Seoul with heavy traffic, making it an ideal testing ground, and its long length allows for a comprehensive assessment of the durability and visibility of the lanes.
The municipal government will conduct an annual quality assessment and analysis by the end of this year, collecting feedback from actual road users on road quality through surveys and interviews.
