Even the most experienced drivers sometimes encounter symbols or road markings that completely confuse them. This is especially true for many drivers who are just beginning to learn the meaning of road markings, and some do not understand them at all.
Driving instructor Annie Winterburn from Spot On Driving has posted a video on TikTok purporting to explain road markings commonly seen on theory tests.
In one of the videos, she emphasized that “many people are confused” because of a certain double line marking on the side of the road.
”Waiting is the same as stopping. So when you see two yellow lines on the road, you can stop to drop someone off, you can stop to pick someone up, but you can’t wait there.”
However, as the Mirror reports, the real confusion comes from lines painted on the kerbs that actually have no meaning to the average driver.
As the automotive expert explained, these markings are loading indicators intended for delivery vehicles: “They are for couriers. These are loading lines. So for those who want to stop their van or truck to deliver goods or pick them up.”
The traffic rules clearly state that double lines mean that loading and unloading is completely prohibited, while single lines mean that loading and unloading is restricted only during certain periods.
Many drivers do not realize that these markings only apply to loading and unloading, not to standard parking or driving.
One user thanked for the clarification, saying: “Great. I thought this was for car drivers… thanks for the clarification.”
Another driver with 40 years of experience appreciated the information. He said: “This information is always useful. I have been driving for 40 years and I am still learning the theory.”
