AkzoNobel has developed a new generation of water-based primers for automotive repair that can significantly improve the productivity and efficiency of auto repair shops.
Sikkens Autowave Optima paint requires only one coat to apply, speeding up the process by up to 50% compared to traditional primer application methods. This translates into energy costs and carbon emissions reduced by up to 60%*.
Thanks to the high pigment concentration, only 1.5 layers are enough to achieve perfect coverage, which allows you to save on average about 15% of material.
Patrick Bourguignon, Head of Automotive and Specialty Coatings at AkzoNobel, stated: “The development of this universal primer is a game-changer for the automotive coatings industry. It addresses a number of key challenges, including the need to improve the sustainability and efficiency of bodyshop operations, as well as the ongoing shortage of skilled labor.”
Autowave Optima primer is easy to apply and mix, suitable for all types of repairs in any climate. When combined with AkzoNobel’s line of fast-drying, high-quality fillers and varnishes, this new primer further enhances the system’s effectiveness, meeting the highest OEM quality standards.
Bourguignon added: “The launch of this new generation of products demonstrates our strong commitment to understanding our customers’ needs and providing the best solutions – both now and in the future – to improve the productivity and efficiency of bodyshops.”
The company’s development team, scientists, technical specialists, and sales staff, in collaboration with select customers, developed, tested, and refined this new primer for the Sikkens and Lesonal brands. The product will be available in select global markets in the coming months.
