The city’s Department of Design and Construction announced that a new road rehabilitation project will begin in Mililani Mauka. This is in addition to a rehabilitation project that began in October 2024.
The project will begin on April 28 and will take approximately 16 months. The construction period is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).
The project includes resurfacing and reconstructing the street (see map), re-aligning manholes, removing trees, pruning roots and installing new pavement markings and signage. These works will improve driving conditions, road visibility and safety.
DDC added: “New asphalt pavement is hot, black and sticky; walking or driving on untreated pavement can cause serious burns or leave ruts in the driveway/sidewalk. Therefore, contractors may delay entering hazardous construction sites during working hours to protect public safety.”
Workers will also restore sections of existing concrete sidewalk, curbs and gutters to improve pedestrian access.
To minimize public impact and maintain traffic flow as much as possible, the contractor will conduct construction in phases. According to DDC, the contractor is responsible for coordinating and managing traffic for local businesses and residents, including deliveries, waste collection, and emergency services.
A week before construction begins, “No Parking” signs will be installed along the road to inform the public of the upcoming construction. People parking on the side of the road are advised to pay attention to the date and time of construction, as cars parked on the side of the road will be towed at the owner’s expense.
